Terry Fox

Every year, TAISM holds an annual Terry Fox run. I had never heard of Terry Fox before moving here, but he was a Canadian who had cancer and had his leg amputated as a result. In order to raise money and awareness he set a goal of running across Canada. He ran almost a marathon per day on an artificial leg for 143 days until the cancer came back — he died in 1981.
More info on Terry Fox can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Fox

Now schools and organizations hold Terry Fox runs all over the world to raise money for cancer research.

There’s Calvin on the far right.

The kids were broken up into age groups and Carter was the 3rd one to finish in the upper elementary. It wasn’t a race, but he had been training with friends and was determined to run it as fast as he could.

exhausted!

First one finished, first one to the food!

Caleb looked so different in his visor that I completely missed his finish. I was standing and watching for him when he came up and gave me a big bear hug from behind.

I missed the picture of him crossing the finish line because another mom stepped right in front of me. Boo.

The middle schoolers and high schoolers ran a longer course — not just around the school, but into the wadi. Good thing they do this in February before it gets really hot! It was a fun day, the kids learned all about Terry Fox in the weeks leading up to the run, and they raised a lot of money for cancer research.
